Zero Point Energy
a new kind of fire
There is a long history of skepticism surrounding this subject and it took a number of precise experiments to clear it up. Albert Einstein (with Otto Stern) introduced the idea of "zero-point energy" in 1913 to explain some confusing experimental results. Amazingly, as late as 1946, well after the establishment of quantum theory, Nobel laureate Wolfgang Pauli stated that "zero-point energy has no physical reality." But soon thereafter, very precise measurements of the atomic spectra of hydrogen convinced everyone that "zero-point energy" was indeed real.
